What is the Lake Merritt Dog Contest?

Established in 2022, as the Vernon Street Dog Contest and re-branded as the Lake Merritt Dog Contest.

The Lake Merritt Dog Contest stands, as far as we know, as America's pioneering street-based Dog Contest, dedicated to uncovering the ultimate champion—the Best Dog! Much like how the Westminster Dog Show welcomes contenders from diverse locales, this event transcends borders, uniting a community deeply devoted to their furry companions beyond the boundary of Lake Merritt. While seeking the title of "best dog," every participant radiates their own brilliance! Each pet earns esteemed recognition, celebrating their distinctive charm and charisma, from their dazzling smiles to unique styles, we are here to celebrate all things DOG! The Lake Merritt Dog Contest is a global celebration and recognition of the world’s visionary dogs, cutest leaders, and exemplary canine citizens. Awards include Most Reliable, Best Silly Boy, and overall Excellence in Style.
